For Mother
When you hold my hand I allow myself, for a moment, to be relieved from carrying the weight of the world
When the choir of grief gets approval to perform their encore, the beacon you hold outshines every spotlight
When time stands still I count my blessings and cherish the staunchness with which you've stood by me
When the time flies by a wave of precious memories crashes upon the shoreline that you drew me
When I’m swept up in the fishing net, it’s difficult to focus on anything but the wire as it cuts into my skin
When you say my name correctly I don’t even notice. It’s the little things that support the foundation of love
When I throw away the key you fire up the forge with no concern for the calluses that form deeper in your palms
When the ceiling starts to leak you pick up the phone to schedule pottery lessons for the two of us
When the well runs dry you gather the masses and begin laying down bricks to form an otherworldly temple
When I pour the last drops from my cup once again, you’ll tease me while finishing your iced tea
When your air horn blares I will stand at attention, praying this time for the wisdom and strength to follow through
When you lifted me up gravity failed to function. Every day since I have floated heavensward unceasing
When I reach the highest heights I will have found my answer. I will clutch the stone tablets close
When the adrenaline fades I’ll notice you and place the rocks gently at your feet and the cycle will repeat
